Nautical Race : The Rolex Giraglia
La Giraglia was created in a Parisian café in 1952 by three men, René Levainville, Franco Gavagnin and Beppe Croce.
The intention was then for a challenge of Italian prestige French who was to conquer the world of offshore sailing. By a strong mistral, on July 11, 1953, 22 boats took the start of the first race. In 1974, the first participation record was reached with 132 boats. In 1997, the name changed with the arrival of a new partner and was called the “Giraglia Rolex Cup”. In 1998, the Yacht Club of Saint-Tropez joined the event to inaugurate a new formula by organizing 3 coastal regattas in Saint-Tropez. The Giraglia has thus become one of the biggest courses to cruise off the Mediterranean, bringing together more than 200 boats, 10 different nationalities. In 2018, the name of the event changes! From now on, it is “LA ROLEX GIRAGLIA” A meeting of prestigious sailboats with an increasingly international fleet, ultra-competitive boats.
